Cell Accessories: Iden Accessories
IDEN accessories for cell phones that use IDEN technology are available in a number of brands, although the IDEN system itself was devised by the company Motorola. Ergo, Motorola accessories are by definition OEM products. IDEN is an acronym for integrated digital enhanced network. It was devised by Motorola as a wireless communications technology to provide support not just for voice and data transmissions, but also short message systems (SMS) and two-way radio, all in one phone.
Based on TDMA technology, IDEN operates in the 800 MHz and 1.5 GHz bands and employs Motorolas VSELP (vector sum excited linear predictors) vocoder to activate voice compression as well as QAM modulation to offer 64 Kbps via a 25KHz channel. Each of these channels is divisible by six to transmit any combination of voice, data, radio, or text messages, all at high speed. Nextel Communications offers coverage throughout the U.S. while myriad other carriers handle the rest of the globe.
Types of IDEN Accessories Available
IDEN accessories feature the usual standbys of headsets and earbuds, but some more unusual items are offered as well. Among these is a bar code scanner that goes for roughly $250 and attaches to the phone in place of the battery door. You scan just by pressing the talk button and no extra power source is necessary.
Motorola also offers other ways to personalize your IDEN accessories themselves. Among these are NFL-themed iDENtifiers, each of which features the color-coded logo of an NFL team. These removable clips snap onto your car chargers, ear buds, and carry cases and can be switched out at any time.
